I have been reading a collection of essays on Weimar Cinema movies for the past few months for one of my classes, and this week I have a really good quote to share.
The book is called Weimar Cinema: An essential guide to classical films of the era by Noah Isenberg.
“Homophobia was a crucial aspect of facism, and it remains one of the most important weapons of some of the most patriarchal, reactionary, oppressive and ultimately antidemocratic forces at work today. Its defeat in this film, however momentary, is one that should cheer us all.”
The film mentioned is Girls in uniforms (1931) and it’s available on YouTube.
