Teaser Tuesday #54

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Ambrosia @ The Purple Booker.

The rules are simple:

1. Grab your current read
2. Open to a random page
3. Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page. BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
4. Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I did some kind of TBR last week, and I was full set on respecting it, except maybe for some books that I would pick up at work. As usual, things went differently and I started reading something else. But in my defense, this one ALSO had been on my TBR for quite some time…

As I get this TT ready, I am currently reading City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab, and I am really enjoying it. It is a middle grade ghost story set in Edinburgh, following Cassidy and her best friend Jacob, who just so happens to be a ghost. As usual, Victoria Schwab’s writing is amazing!

For this week, I decided to pick up two different quotes because I loved them both:

“Summer is almost here, and that means fresh air and sunshine and books to read for fun. It means the annual family trek down the rented beach house on Long Island so Mom and Dad can work on their next book.” — p. 5

“Every time I get nervous or scared, I remind myself that every good story needs twists and turns. Every heroine needs an adventure.” — p. 55

there's someone inside your house

I fell upon a great quote while reading and decided it was a great opportunity to share a Teaser Tuesday this week, especially since I haven’t posted much this month. The book I’m currently reading is There’s Someone Inside Your House, Stephanie Perkins’ crime novel that was published in 2017. The French translation was just released and I stumbled upon it at work which reminded me of how much I wanted to read it.

Here’s the quote, it’s from chapter 9, and apparently on p.103 of the original edition:

“A real dead body looked different from the ones on television or in the movies. There was nothing artful about it. Nothing positioned.”

3 Quotes 3 Days | Day 3

And here comes the last day of the 3 Quotes 3 Days Tag! I’m a huge lover of quotes, and it was so much fun to do this and share the love. Once again, thank you Lady Bibliotaph for tagging me!

The rules go as follows:

  1. Thank the wonderful human who nominated you
  2. Post a new quote for three consecutive days
  3. Nominate three new bloggers every day

And for the last day, I decided to share my favourite quote from my favourite book. I have it up on my wall, just above my desk. And in case you didn’t know (because I don’t talk about it enough), my favourite book is One Day by David Nicholls.

“You’re gorgeous, you old hag, and if I could give you just one gift ever for the rest of your life, it would be this. Confidence. It would be the gift of confidence. Either that or a scented candle.”

I just love this quote so much ♥

I already tagged people yesterday and the day before yesterday, so I’m not tagging anyone specifically today, but if you want to do this tag, feel free to do so! I’m tagging you! And I hope you have a wonderful day!

3 Quotes 3 Days | Day 2

To be honest, I had already seen bloggers do this tag and I thought this was pretty cool, so I’m glad I was tagged to do it because it gave me the perfect opportunity to do it! Again, thanks to Lady Bibliotaph for tagging me!

The Rules:

  1. Thank the wonderful human who nominated you
  2. Post a new quote for three consecutive days
  3. Nominate three new bloggers every day

For this second day, I have chosen to present you with a quote from Why I’m no Longer Talking to White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge, because I believe this book is extremely important and want everyone to hear about it. The quote is from the third chapter: What is White Priviledge?

“How can I define white priviledge? It’s so difficult to describe an absence. And white priviledge is an absence of the negative consequences of racism.”

I’m tagging Chocolate ‘N’ Waffles, Drizzle and Hurricane Books, and Ally Dewing

I have been reading a collection of essays on Weimar Cinema movies for the past few months for one of my classes, and this week I have a really good quote to share.

The book is called Weimar Cinema: An essential guide to classical films of the era  by Noah Isenberg.

My quote:

“Homophobia was a crucial aspect of facism, and it remains one of the most important weapons of some of the most patriarchal, reactionary, oppressive and ultimately antidemocratic forces at work today. Its defeat in this film, however momentary, is one that should cheer us all.”

The film mentioned is Girls in uniforms (1931) and it’s available on YouTube.

I discovered this weekly meme about a year ago (I remember it was at the beginning of January) and since then I have been participating almost every week… And for now I plan on doing the same, at least for a while!

A Christmas Carol

I started listening to the audiobook for A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens last week, because I had never read this book, and it was free on Audible (it still is, if you’re interested, and I’m not sure for how long but go check it out if you want!). I didn’t really know what to expect, but so far I enjoy it. I read Great Expectations last year for college and didn’t really like it, but for now, I enjoy this one better. And it also keeps reminding me of the Doctor Who episode with Dickens… Anyway.

Genre: Classics

My quote:

“How can I not be cross when I’m forced to live in a world of fools?”

(And yes, I know you’re supposed to share two sentences, but it’s really impossible for me when it’s an audiobook!)

Me & Earl & the Dying Girl

This week I am (among others) listening to the audiobook for Me & Earl & the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews. The book was released in 2012 and I kind of feel like I am the last person in the book community to read it, but finally, here I am.

Genre: YA, Contemporary

My quote:

“I am definitely the stupidest smart person there is.”

The Song of Achilles

I am still listening to The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and since I don’t have time to read much else these days, I will share another teaser from this book today!

Genre: YA, retelling, mythology

“Perhaps it is a greater grief to be left on Earth when another is gone.”
